Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

If you are interested in becoming a part of the GCA Montessori family, please use our form on our contact page to discuss current availability.

GCA Montessori is currently at full capacity, but we do keep a waitlist. We are optimistic about opening new spaces after September 2024.

Typically, the registration process for the waitlist is as follows:

  1. Book a tour
    • We encourage all parents to tour our facilities and get to meet the teachers prior to registering or getting on the waitlist so that they can determine whether GCA is the right fit for you and your child.
  2. After determining this, you will be sent our registration package. You must fill out this package to proceed with registration.
  3. A non-refundable registration fee of $150 is required. This fee helps cover administrative costs and processing. Once a space becomes available, we will contact you to complete the enrollment.

Please be assured that your child’s name will be placed on our waiting list, and we will keep you updated about any changes in availability

Gradual entry has several goals:

  • That separation between the child and parent/guardian be gradual and positive
  • That parents/guardians and children are gradually introduced to becoming familiar with the routines, activities and philosophy of our school
  • That the child and teacher(s) develop a positive relationship.

Yes. The number to reach is 1-800-338-6622 option 1.

Our Lunch is:

  • Plant-dominant

We lean heavily into vegetables to provide children with the most nutritional value possible. When we do use meat, it’s lean, local and sustainably raised.

  • Real Ingredients

Save the lab coats and beakers for science class! Our meals are made from scratch each morning and we steer clear of overly-processed foods.

  • Allergen free

Too often, children with dietary restrictions or sensitivities are relegated to a lesser version of the original.

Our menu is inclusive for all so children can enjoy our meals together.

Our teachers are certified in B.C. as an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) after completing an early childhood education training program that is recognized by the ECE Registry.

·Staff will ensure that children are supervised, by a direct view, at all times by one or more educator(s), assistant(s), or responsible adult(s) and that staffing ratios specified by the CCLR are maintained at all times.

The ratio of 1 to 8 children for 3-5 years old group and multi age group, 1 to 4 children for Infant and Toddler group and 1 to 8 – 10 children for School Age.

The concept of discipline has to be established long before the children come to the day care. The focus should not be on the behaviour but on the relationship between the teacher and the child. The word “discipline” is derived from the Latin word “Discipulum” which means “pupil”. The child is the pupil whom the teacher guides and to whom s/he becomes the role model.

With upset toddlers or early learners, redirecting their emotions by offering a substitute toy or engaging them in some other activity may prevent inappropriate behaviours to escalate. It will help the child to develop impulse control and redirect the child to an area that assists them to “feel better”.

  • Holding the child should only be done for safety reasons to soothe them when a child is losing control and might become a safety hazard to themself or others.
  • Please read our Policy Handbook to get more detailed information on discipline
