Last month, we had David and Melissa McVety come in again to this time talk to our parents about raising kids drug free children.
Some important points include:
- ensuring you are having multiple age-appropriate conversations with your child as they grow up, using their questions about real life events and interactions as jumping off points to have informative conversations
- making sure your child feels like they can trust and ask you questions about taboo topics such as drugs without getting in trouble for talking about “bad” things — otherwise, they might seek outside sources that don’t have their best interests at heart!
- maintaining strong parent-child bonds — the leading motivator for drug use is loneliness and lack of support systems leading people to seek out other forms of comfort.
