Ears are very crucial in developing a child’s language ability.
In early stage of pregnancy on the first and second trimester, the inner ear is connecting with neurons in the brain in order to process sounds. In the process, the miniscule bones of the middle ear (which sense the vibration of sound waves) form. Around week 16 of pregnancy, it’s likely that these structures are well-established enough for the baby to start detecting some limited noises such as the gurgle of mom’s stomach and whoosh of air in and out of her lungs. This proved how much environment affects how the baby learns her language. The more stimulation the baby gets the more active the neurons will make the connection. By week 24, the baby in the womb has been shown to turn her heads to respond to voices and noises. It is crucial to know what kind of environment you want your child to live in. The word environment is derived from French word “environ” that means “surrounding” such as biotic factors like human beings, plants, animals, etc. Children would get effected by the Interaction with the environment around him/her. In most cases, since mother is the first adult he knows and interacts with, the child learns first his mother tongue. He would imitates whatever he hears. There are 5 aspects the children need to learn in order to gain a healthy language development. 1) Phonetics, 2) Vocabularies, 3)Grammar 4)Discourse 5) Pragmatism. Listening around him is part of his language development:
Do you want your child to develop his language ability? 1) The more frequent you interact with your child through communication, the greater in number his vocabularies will be.
2)Value listening. It is very encouraging for the child to gain confident in using her language when you listen fully what the child is saying regardless how far it is from the perfect pronunciation.
3)Not only listening with full attention but also valuing their talking. It will encourage them to practice speaking as well.
